Grab AWA RSS FeedReading books is one of my favorite hobbies. When I was young we used to have lots of books around the apartment. I remember just picking books up and reading them. I didn’t have to know the name of it or what is was about. My mom had a library in the basement and I would pick up a book and just flip through the pages reading and looking at pictures. I actually remember that the book shelf was in the same room as the weight bench. Funny, I have more memories of reading than working out on the bench.
Every book that was laying around our apartment I considered mine. If it were a small book or a super huge book I had my hands and eyes on it. So imagine my surprise when I read an article that mentioned in recent studies parents who have books around the apartment typically have smarter children. Yay me! In fact, this was very interesting: allowing for a child to choose 12 summer reading books on their own at the let out of summer vacation is the equivalent of summer school. A study authored by M.D.R. Evans and supporting co-authors found that growing up in a household with 500 or more books is:
“As great an advantage as having university-educated rather than unschooled parents, and twice the advantage of having a professional rather than an unskilled father.”
